The New advertising media on the Internet.  Several companies are giving you something for nothing, or so it seems.  These companies give you something in return for your downloading their software.  This locks you into receiving advertisements and giving out information about you and your activities on the net.  There is a growing trend to sell information about you to different marketing companies.  This is a questionable practice and you need to be aware and cautious.

Another company is under scrutiny for transmitting any and all information about you back to the owners of the software.  This is a Security and Privacy issue.  So far the companies involved do not inform you in advance of what they are doing.  Most people have not been successful at un-installing the software.  This type of software is know as a Trojan horse.  

To check and/or stop such software try OptOut. It is small, fast and FREE.  So far I have no questionable software on my computers, so I do not know how well it works.  But I will let you know.

Some estimate that there are 17 million computers with this type of software installed.  Is yours one?
