Sun Microsystems has a great software package called STAR OFFICE, its a substitute for Microsoft Office. The retail version cost $79.99 at CompUSA and it includes Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Database, Image Editor and a slideshow program. Its very nice package! I am using it in place of MS Office.

The Free version is great, I have been testing it for about nine (9) months and so have a few of my clients.
New Microsoft Policy .........
When you buy a computer from a computer manufacture (OEM) and Windows is included, you will not receive a CD-ROM with Windows on it. The manufacture will place a copy of the setup files on the hard drive or give you a recovery CD. Microsoft claims that this will reduce software piracy. It seems to me that Microsoft save a lot of money by not giving a CD, but you are not receiving the full value for there money. Just remember, if your hard disk crashes, you lose everything.
I protect my system by making a recovery image of my hard disks on to CD-Rs. This process saves everything including the operating system. Its a fast and easy way to recover from any disaster.
I have been informed buy a few corporate customers that they will consider other operating systems to replace Windows. I am looking.

Anti-virus software and local area network security are the biggest issues for 2000. There are a lot of new computer viruses that will damage your data files and computer hardware. Anti-virus software is necessary. Please remember that no anti-virus product is 100% guaranteed, you must be careful about what you download and opening attachments to email. Floppies and CDs are another source of computer viruses. Remember to update your Virus signatures every month.
I have tested anti-virus software and I have found Computer Associates Inoculan â to be the most effective at finding and stopping computer viruses. There is a Home version www.My-Etrust.com available on their web site. The home version is $19.95 and they charge $9.95 yearly for updates and virus signatures.

ETRUST InoculanIT 6.0 is very good also.... I will be reviewing ETRUST InoculanIT 7.0 in March.
